10) Mickey Guyton

Mickey Guyton was born in Arlington, TX, in 1983. She traveled a lot when she was young due to her father’s engineering job which was very demanding. She liked the sights and sounds of the historic state and she was also inspired by vocalists like LeAnn Rimes, Dolly Parton, and Whitney Houston.
Moreover, she began singing in local churches when was at the tender age of 5 and according to her, she knew from that moment that all she ever wanted to do was sing for the rest of her life. After high school, she went to Los Angeles and enrolled at the Santa Monica College. However, it was hard for Guyton to see any hope of her dream becoming a reality.
Mickey Guyton became lucky later when she met a man named Julian Raymond who helped put her in contact with the producers of Faith Hill and Lady Antebellum. She impressed these producers and it was not long before she was headed to Nashville in 2011 to make her dream a reality
She is best known for her hit song “Better Than You Left Me” which she co-wrote and also performed it in 2015 at the Grand Ole Opry. This became number 56 on Billboard Country Airplay chart. She was born in Pittsburgh, PN, in 1981 and surprisingly she is known for her great country music vocals. Years later she moved to a suburb of St. Louis, MO. At the tender of 16 Palmer was already singing country music professionally at the Arkansas State Fair.
Her rise to stardom began in 2006 when the recording label Starbucks Entertainment produced her first EP. From then she went to produce her first album in 2007 which was called Rissi Palmer. However, what can be seen as an expected event in her career is that her songs and singles landed spots in the 50s and 40s on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
What is special about her which is also proof of how much talent she has, is the fact she is fusing country with other genres like soul, gospel, and even R&B in her latest studio recordings but still at the same time keeping her country identity.
She made history when she became the first black female vocalist to appear on the country chart since Mason when her hit song Country Girl peaked at No 54.

8) Miko Marks

She is a Mississippi-born and bust into the scene of world music in the country music genre in 2005 after she released her hit single “Freeway Bound”. Later on, she released an album also called Freeway Bound and this was followed by her other hit singles like “Mama” and “Kickin’ Back.”

Vicki Vann was born in Los Angeles in 1980. Her father was the founder of the award-winning gospel group Mighty Clouds of Joy. However, contrary to what everyone was expecting since it was the normal behavior Vicki Vann developed an interest in country music early on in her life and the love for this genre grew stronger.
She was shy when she was young and went to school to study both psychology and education, and for a while, she worked as a kindergarten teacher. After this, she made a decision to become a full-time singer in the country genre and this made her release her first studio album which she called Miracle.

She had many musical influences in her life including Nancy Wilson, Amy Grant, Aretha Franklin and surprisingly her own father who despite being a Baptist who was perhaps her greatest influence. After releasing her first studio album she went to release the self-entitled Vicki Vann. 5. Anita Pointer

She is an American R&B/Soul singer-songwriter. Many people probably know her from the group which she was in called The Pointer Sisters. She was born in Oakland, CA, in January 1948. She is one of the founding members of The Pointer Sisters along with her two younger sisters June and Bonnie. They became known to the world after they released their hit song “Yes We Can” in 1973 which became No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Their careers went on to become big later on when they became the first African American female group to perform at the Grand Ole Opry with their hit song “Fairytale.” God was not done with blessing them in their careers and this song also became the one to which won the group its first Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group, and a Grammy Nomination for the Best Country Song of the year back in 1975.
Their later hits made them rise to higher levels including “He’s So Shy” and “Slow Hand”. The album Break Out reached multi-platinum which further won them two more Grammy Awards. Anita has ever since kept herself busy in the music industry and went on to team up with Earl Thomas Conley to record the hit country song “Too Many Times.” It reached number 2 two on the country chart in 1986. She released her first solo album in 1987 Love For What It Is which was a success and later went to write her own songs and perform across the country.

While most of her music is considered to be pop, during the American Idol, she actually did sing a couple of country hits. Most notably she did the cover for the song “A Broken Wing” by Martina McBride. Hit songs from her self-entitled album like “Tattoo” and “No Air” the latter in collaboration with Chris Brown is the third highest-selling single by an American Idol contestant.

In interviews, Yolanda Diamond always told interviewers how much she loved the story-telling aspects of county music She still sings at various casinos all across the USA.

1) Esther Phillips

Esther Philips was born in Galveston, TX, in 1935. She sang in many different musical genres and is a very talented African American singer. For someone of her talent, she started winning at the tender age of 14 in local vocal contests.
Her first major hit was “Double Crossing Blues” which was released in 1950 which managed to reach number 1 on Billboard R&B chart. She also made songs with Johnny Otis Orchestra including “Mistrusting Blues” and also “Cupid’s Boogie” which also topped the charts and became number one in the same year. However, she just had not yet had enough of greatness when in the same year four more of her records made it to the top 10.
She released her first major album The Country Side of Esther in 1966 for country music fans. Apart from country songs she also sang jazz, soul, and pop songs. Rumors are that she was even contacted by the Beatles after she re-worked their song “And I Love Her.” All this talent was however wasted when she died at UCLA Medical Centre, 1984, at the age of 48, from kidney and liver failure due to prolonged usage of drugs and alcohol abuse.
